Dunbar School has a rich tradition
of art programs and a firm belief in the value of arts in the
curriculum. The arts are integrated in to all parts of the curriculum
and also offered after school through our After School Enrichment
Program. The classes have included arts, crafts, dance, music,
sports, technology, performing arts and more.

1st grade Quilt |
Artist in
Residence Program
The Fine Arts Program brings local artists to each classroom
for extended lessons that focus on different genres at each grade
level. 4th & 5th graders also exhibit their artwork at the
Sonoma Valley Museum of Art.

Mural Project
Works in progress and works to come are designed and created
by the students and Dennis Ziemienski, nationally acclaimed artist
and Glen Ellen resident. |
Performing Arts
The Dunbar
Melodrama
A spectacular original production now in its 15th year. The 5th
grade students act in and help stage a full-length western melodrama.
Performed every spring on the beautiful Haver Stage, outdoors
under the oaks and now directed by Sonoma Treasure, Kate
Kennedy.

Poetry Faire
An annual poetry recital
performed by 2nd, 3rd, 4th, and 5th graders. Each child is encouraged
to memorize and recite poems as a soloist or in a group before
an audience of students and parents.
Music
School Band
& Choir:
4th & 5th grade students participate in a complete band program.
Instruments include: flute, clarinet, alto saxophone, trumpet,
trombone, and drums.
